In the 80’s there was always the debate; “Who is better Prince or Michael Jackson?” I always answered Prince because that was the more masculine answer. I would say that and dip around the corner to watch Michael at every performance I could. This was before pay per view and before Michael went in to seclusion. This was when amazing performances were free and seen on network TV at yearly award shows.
I look at my 8 year old son and can not imagine someone his age commanding the attention of thousands. This was Michael’s gift. As Michael grew up the attention he stole grew in to millions. When America had enough of his eccentric ways Michael left and grew his following without America.
Michael’s genius for music can’t be explained. It is like trying to explain how Barry Sanders could break ankles on the football turf in a split second with one move of his hips. To those of us who can’t do it, it is above our understanding and to the one who could it was normal.
Michael was an amazing example of what God can do in each of us. I strongly believe Michael was no different than anyone of us except for one thing. Michael was able to combine his gift with his purpose and the power that comes from that burned the grass he walked on.
I have no idea what Michael’s purpose was and don’t choose to waste brain cells trying to figure it out. I choose to spend my time pondering what God placed in me that will set the grass on fire.
